BACKGROUND
‘Our Street’ began as part of Buxton’s High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) project. Funding came from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, local government’s Future High Streets Fund, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England. It was administered by Historic England, with support from High Peak Borough Council.

A cultural consortium, made up of representatives from Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust, Buxton International Festival, Buxton Opera House, Buxton Festival Fringe, Babbling Vagabonds Theatre Company and REC Youth Theatre, together with a Community Engagement steering group comprised of Vision Buxton, Buxton Town Team, Buxton Civic Association, Connex: Street by Street and Buxton Central Ward, facilitated the development and delivery of the arts programme.

The geographical area of the HSHAZ project was Spring Gardens and its surrounding streets. There were separate funds being used for conservation-led repairs and restoration of buildings, whilst Our Street events added animation and vibrancy to the streetscape. Together Our Street aimed to deepen the sense of connection to and pride in the town centre for all Buxtonians.
THE FUTURE
The Role of Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust - Why Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust is the Right Vehicle to Drive This Vision Forward

We have the capacity to convene and coordinate – The Trust is well-placed to act as a central hub, bringing together cultural groups, venues, and creatives to share resources and plan collaboratively.
We have experience in securing funding – With a successful track record in managing grants and delivering publicly funded projects, BCHT can support the long-term sustainability of Buxton’s cultural sector.
We have a good record of public engagement and visibility – As a visitor-facing organisation with a strong digital and physical presence, BCHT can help raise awareness and widen participation in cultural activities across the town.
Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust is not starting from scratch – it’s building on a foundation of meaningful work, deep local roots, and a clear commitment to making culture accessible, relevant, and sustainable. With the right support, the Trust can be the driving force that helps turn Buxton’s cultural aspirations into reality.
